Visiting Boston--some hiking pics

I'm back on the cold coast visiting Alex and going to his concert this evening.  I thought it might be fun to post a few pics from some of our recent hiking/climbing outings......

This first picture is from our trip out when we stopped at the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona:

One of our earlier SoCal hikes found Judy, Anders and I climbing up to Skull Rock in the Santa Monica mountains.  Here is Judy and Anders in the eye of the skull...

One of the new hikes we completed this year was Los Liones up to Parker Mesa--fantastic hike and here is Judy enjoying the well-earned views from the Mesa....

Our most recent hike saw us clambering up to Eagle Rock--a monster rock formation not far from Parker Mesa.  Judy feeling comfy above a 100 feet of exposure (and certain death) to her left....

Judy framing the couple mile distant Eagle Rock....

And triumphantly on top of the monster Sandstone formation....

Heading down---yet another fantastic hike/climb!

3rd cali week

I was able to get into the Santa Monica College pool and had a "normal" swim load this week.  Also, we were able to get a couple of very good hikes in this week.  Our two hikes took a total of 5:47 and covered about 12.5 miles with around 3,100 feet of vertical.  Overall stats for the week:

Swim: 8,500 yards
Bike: 139 miles
Run: 10 miles
Stretch/Weights: 45 minutes
Hike: 5:47
Total time: 20:15

2nd cali week

Ok--for the most part settling in out here in SoCal.  I hope to get into the SaMo CC pool next week, which will bring some stability (and volume) to my swimming.  I was able to up the biking this week and get out on the trails--both trends I hope to continue.

This week's totals:

Swim: 4,000 yds
Bike: 229 miles
Run: 12.5 miles
Hike/Climb: 2.5 hours
Stretch/Weights: 1.5 hours
Total time: 22:30

1st Cali week

Finished up with the first week in Cali.  A bit of a tough week training wise as we had 4 relatives from my wife's family visiting and we were just getting settled in after the drive out.  Also, my main pool at SMCC remains closed until the 16th so only one swim this week and probably a curtailed volume next week as well:

Swim: 2,000 yds
Bike: 170 miles
Run: 11 miles
Stretch/weights: 45 min
Total time: 14:34

Feels great to get outside and hammer on the bike.  My run is still very limiting---could be a challenge to race with....

January actuals and Cali dreams

Here are the totals for lat week as well as for the month of January (both of course were impacted by the three day cross country trip we made at the end of last week:

Week:

Swim: 7,000 yds
Run: 11 miles
Bike: 67 miles
PT/Stretch/Weights: 4:10
Total Time: 12:43

January:

Swim: 30,000 yds
Run: 52 miles
Bike: 607 miles
PT/Stretch/Weights: 20:51
Total Time: 81:10

I feel pretty good about the January numbers--recall  my goals for January were:

Swim: 30,000+ yards--so just made it
Bike: 600-700 miles--again, just made it
Run: 60 miles--missed by a little bit as running is going to be a real on-going problem
Other: Great month for PT/weights etc as I made real progress.  Wasn't able to get down to SNP for any hiking unfortunately.

Now in Cali and getting settled in.  Found a pool to fill in before the Santa Monica CC pool opens so just had my first swim since getting here.  Good initial progress on the bike--both outside and in Kara's Soul Cycle classes, which I've made two so far.  Legs are sore!  Run still challenging--more on that later!

I'm going to set similar volume goals for Feb--but do expect quite a bit more intensity!
