Coming to the end of 2022 Phase I--on track, though body feeling it!

Another solid 2022 Base Building week (at least as far as the "my-knee-don't-work-era" goes)....

Swim: 11.1k yards

Bike: 301 miles

Run: 5 miles

Time: 23 hours

Here are the updated Trailing 4-week average charts comparing to 2019-2021:

I'm ahead of where I wanted to be on the swim at this early junction of the year.  My goal Q1 objectives were to effectively repeat my early year 2021 approach but with an earlier ramp such that I hit 120,000 yards in Q1.  I'm currently at 134,350 yards with 4 days to go and I'm up a significant 38% over 2021 at this point:

I also wanted to replicate my early 2021 "Bike Monster" strategy and I'm pretty much on it.  I'm now over 4,000 miles year to date and up 14% over 2021:

On the run (or lack-therein), the ugliness continues!  I'm essentially continuing my waiting period before I start trying to run.  I'm starting a new cycle of knee injections tomorrow and plan to begin trying to build up to double digit miles/week during April and maybe May, depending how much I can handle..  The spike up in 2019 that you see below was the prep work I was doing getting ready to climb in Bolivia with Anders:

Time-wise, I wanted a similar overall investment as in 2021 and at this point I'm up about 15%, which is about 3 more hours per week in 2022.  That actually feels pretty significant as I'm definitely feeling like I'm at the upper end of my body's ability to sustain training load as I near 25 hours/week--at least at my current intensity and fitness level:

I'm thinking I may have to throw a light week or two into the mix as I transition to phase 2, which will be a IM70.3 build phase heading into Eagleman.

I elected to not race this weekend, mostly due to a bunch of non-triathlon going-ons but fully expect to race once or maybe twice in the 2nd quarter as tune-ups for Eagleman.

Onward and Upward!
